America is the land of milk and honey, home of the free. Just as every citizen has inalienable rights, the businesses that spring from our great nation also are free to make choices. When our young country’s economy began rapidly growing, so did the intense demand for our products begin to spread worldwide. As foreigners’ desire to have MADE IN THE USA on their products increased, an equally difficult strain was placed on US companies to keep up.
Often in the wake of that were rarely-seen hazardous byproducts and dangerous occupations that sprang from everyday use. In many cases, the byproducts of the products we use every day can be hazardous, making them something of a necessary evil. But just because they are a necessity to enjoy the many conveniences that we do does not mean that we are obligated to suffer any adverse effects that they produce.
Being Compliant is Not Always Financially Easy or Even Possible
At Air Clear, we recognize that it is a fine line to walk for certain businesses and industries to provide the products that we need while being innovative enough to make our lives easier. Staying within the parameters of being compliant according to government rules and regulations is not always easy or financially possible. At Air Clear, we understand both sides of the issue and we work to find affordable business compliance solutions.
Budget Constraints
Capitalism was built on the notion that innovation and advances via competition are not only necessary to excel as a nation, but that competition is good for everyone. Even not-for-profit entities, which do not exist to generate asset-building, have to profit financially to remain in existence. Often, government regulations and rules can seem arbitrary, lead to heavy costs for businesses and industries, and stifle not just profits but innovation itself. We get it.
One time, one of our ex-employees was talking about how great it is that we get to help the world, to which the owner replied, “We are not in business to save the world. We are in business to make money.” He was being dramatic and he probably downplayed how much making a difference actually meant to him, but that theme is semi-true: we have to be profitable in order to make payroll and so our employees can feed their families.
I think he sort of worries that people might think he’s taking advantage by making money off something that needs to exist, but they forget all the hard work that goes into creating these systems to combat air pollution. He has put everything he has on the line multiple times to keep the lights on here, and that allows us to continue to grow.
Our Mission is to Find a Happy Medium
The main goal of the Clean Air Act was to promote health and wellness for communities, and we certainly both adhere to those tenets and believe that they are necessary. But we also understand that not all companies have the resources necessary to go above and beyond.
As it stands right now, the Environmental Protection Agency makes up nearly 70% of all the costs that the federal government imposes on small businesses, most of which are related to the Clean Air Act. At Air Clear, we understand that those rules can put a significant hardship on your business’s profits, which is why we work to find innovative advances – not just for public safety, but for you, the small business owner, to conduct business. One thing to keep in mind is there is less frustration with this act now than originally, now that people know they have to have it budgeted in. But at first, they resented being blindsided by the government – even for a good reason.
The Cost Versus Benefit of EPA Rules and Regulations
Not until recently has the EPA considered the costs of their regulations. President Trump’s Executive Order 13777 required that federal agencies reconsider many of the rules currently in place, and also proposed a cost-benefit scale to determine whether the rules and regulations outweigh their benefits. It is our mission at Air Clear to represent public safety – because after all, that is why we continue to find cutting-edge ways to limit pollution for a cleaner environment for everyone. But we also strive to find a common ground where small, midsized, and big businesses can continue to progress and develop the products that make our lives easier.
Lifesaving Technology Tempered with Environmental Protection – A Fine Line to Walk!
Industries that we gain benefit from as a society, from the pharmaceutical to the plastics industries, are an integral part of lifesaving technologies and designs, but they do come at a certain cost to the environment. We believe that there is a way to find a balance for the best of both worlds, which is why we continue to advocate for affordable business compliance solutions that make sense and search for cheaper and cutting-edge technology to solve pollution problems.
